Artwork description ...

One definition of wabi-sabi that I like describes it as, “the art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death.”

This little house on Jefferson Avenue in Uptown New Orleans was funky but chic before it was renovated. To me, its “before” state is preferable to its “after” state because it was a great example of the “elegance of decay” that is the natural state of buildings in New Orleans.

Decay is a process of the swamp environment that New Orleans exists within. As some neighborhoods in New Orleans are being gentrified “within an inch of their life”, here’s an homage to the “wabi-sabi” that gives New Orleans its soul.
